Wedding weekend - Sept 8-10, 2007
Ducked out of work early again on friday (starting to become a habit) and met Jen at home. A brief flurry of packing ensued and then we hit the bus to go pick up the car. We had a bit of a scare when it seemed the hertz guy wasn't going to rent us a car without Jen's passport. Somehow we convinced him though, so off we went. Drove out to the Bull Hotel in Halstead. Got there/changed/and headed out to Kate and Mark's reception and proceeded to join in the general merriment.
The reception was in a very cool older building that Queen Elizabeth the 1st used to pray in. Afterwards we headed back to town and had a couple night caps back at the hotel bar.
Got up saturday morning fairly early, though not really enough to get out for the planned run (surprise, surprise). We had breakfast (full english) and headed over to Tamworth for James and Gill's wedding. It was quite a drive actually - 1/2 way across england, but we did make it to our hotel in about 3 hours. We were intending on getting down to the pub before the service, but as all of our best intentions, that didn't happen and in the end we were lucky to make it to the church with about 2 minutes to spare. Nice wedding in St. Peters church in Elford. Then headed back to the Arnold Ranch for the beginning of the festivities.
Dinner, drinking and dancing pretty much consumed the rest of the evening. The highlight of which was probably Jack's best man speech in which he told a story of James and him being at a party in Whistler where they took a number of "party favours" and James apparently got raped by a bear. We did eventually leave but instead of our hotel we ended up back at Jack's - where we continued on until eventually passing out on his floor.
So after having paid £71 for a bed and breakfast, we ended up sleeping on Jack's floor - which as it turns out - was only around the corner. Nice.
When we did eventually get up on Sunday we headed back to the Arnold's - nothing like returning to the scene of the crime. Had a good laugh chatting to everyone - as someone put it - "Trying to forget what we were talking about last night". Too funny.
